Beyond the Mirror
Young people from racially and culturally diverse communities often grow up underrepresented in mainstream beauty, fashion, and wellbeing spaces. This lack of representation can lead to feelings of invisibility, low self-worth, and disconnection from personal identity.
In many Manchester communities, young people also face limited access to culturally affirming programmes that celebrate heritage, support creative expression, and link to real career opportunities
Beauty and fashion are often dismissed as superficial, despite being powerful tools for self-expression, entrepreneurship, and confidence-building.
Beyond the Mirror was created to respond to these needs — using culture, creativity, and care to help young people reclaim confidence, explore identity, and pursue meaningful careers.
